Headland Golf Club takes out EC Coker Shield in Club Car opening event

Monday 22, Feb 2021

Team HeadlandThis year’s opening event in Queensland, the Club Car GMAQ Executive Day (EC Coker Shield), saw the biggest player attendance in years, with a maxed out field at 88 on the beautiful RACV Royal Pines course.

We had two-time MotoGP World Champion, Casey Stoner, in the field playing along with Broc Greenhalgh from the PGA and Inside Golf’s David Ross. A GMA member brought three executives and played in pairs with team scores then totalled to identify the winner.

Winners are grinners

The event was a close race with Team Oxley on 81 points and Team Dalby on 80 points, however it was the team from Headland Golf Club, with recent Victorian transplant General Manager, Matt Lang, and executives Serg Nogarotto, Gavin Rooney and Tony Kelleher, who managed a team score of 82 points to receive the coveted EC Coker Shield.

The top three teams in the main event of the day were:

  • 1st: Ricky Close/Peter Nuttal (Oxley GC) - 46 points
  • 2nd: Ian Cottle/Robert Teece (Burleigh GC) - 44 points
  • 3rd: Luke Bates (Golf Australia)/Patrick Bardon (Hostplus) - 43 points

Club Car Hole in One PrizeAs always, Club Car kindly donated a new golf cart as the Hole In One prize - unfortunately, no one achieved the ultimate prize on the day, and the hole-in-one prize continues to be only a dream!

Ted Coker Testimonial

Unfortunately, Life Member Ted Coker couldn’t make this event but sent through a Club Car testimonial to be shared with players in attendance.

“Would you please make my apologies and express by thanks to the Board for continuing to use my name for the trophy. It is a privilege for me. With luck, I will be able to attend some future events.

Some time ago, I ran into a bloke at RQ called Simon George, quite a nice fellow considering, you see, I really ran into him, “T Barred” his Merc with my buggy in the car park. Merc $20,000 repairs, my buggy “write off”.

So I rang Club Car, told them I was a mate of Kevin. They sold me a Demo Club Car which is terrific and at the right price. GO Club Car.”

Thank you!

Queensland has been blessed with great weather and limited COVID restrictions. We have been very fortunate to provide our members and Corporate Partners with a full schedule of events since August last year, but our thoughts have been with our industry peers that have not been able to run events or network at all.

Thank you to Kevin Gates from Club Car for the continued support, to RACV Royal Pines Venue Manager David Hogben, Tom Caroll from TaylorMade, and to all the other corporate partners and guest in attendance on the day.
